Road Trip to Germany aka Our Life in Hotels!

Almost an entire month has gone by already!  We were sad to leave Vilnius, Lithuania behind... but on to new things.  Here are some shots from our road trip from Lithuania, through Poland, and ending in Germany.

Bags packed and ready to be loaded.  Leaving Vilnius...

Our super sexy van we drove cross country

Shots of Poland.  We drove mostly 2 lane roads like this.  Every road was lined with trees and usually had farmland surrounding it.  Every so often you'd come up to some small town that would have 1-3 options for lodging and a few restaurants.

These trees had some sort of fungus growing in them.
The balls reminded me of Dr. Seuss books.

This is a typical sign you'd see throughout Poland.  First, it's the city name, a sign showing that you are entering a city, and the speed limit (km).

This sign shows that this city is now behind you, so if it was your intention to go there, you best turn around, and that you have now left the city.

This was the "Polish Snow Plow" at one of the hotels we stayed at.
I'm pretty sure Mr. Bean was driving this...

Hollis taking her turn behind the wheel.

This is in Germany.  We asked the GPS to find us a restaurant and it found us this hotel/restaurant slightly off the beaten path.  The food was excellent and the lady brought out a big tub of toys for Hollis to play with.  She basically had the run of the restaurant.

 A nice sunset in Germany.

You know you are in Germany when you start seeing these.
They are everywhere.

Another hotel we stayed in.  This one was quite charming.
The Fraport Skyliners basketball team also happened to be staying there while we were!

Family fun time...

Back on the road for the final leg...

We have arrived!  Our "home" for the first week in Frankfurt.
This is the Best Western Premier IB Friedberger Warte Hotel.

Klaipeda Trip: Day Three - Sculpture Park and Train Station

Klaipeda, Lithuania
Sculpture Park and Train Station

Monday, 12/31/12

We had a nice breakfast and decided to walk across the city to the train station.  On our way through Klaipeda, we walked through the Sculpture Park which had hundreds of statues.  Then we boarded the train and headed back to Vilnius.

Our hotel

A Lock Bridge - when people get married, they engrave their names and wedding date on a lock and attach it to the bridge.  The marriages last as long as the lock does!

Which way does the wind blow?

Walking through town...

This church is now the post office.

Back entrance to the Sculpture Park
 Lots of Sculptures...

 See Rob?

This one is for Marci - saddle on the horse hoof

 At the train station

Our train that will take us back to Vilnius.  Reminded me a bit of the Hogwarts Express!

We had this berth all to ourselves for about 6 stops, but then we got company.

We had a great trip to Klaipeda.  Hope to go in the summer someday to explore more of the Curonian Spit, the sand dunes, walking trails and other fun things.
