Our new neighborhood...

Here's some shots of our new environment so you can get a feel of our neighborhood and the views from our place.  Most places I looked at had views of other apartment buildings, so this was a bonus!

These are the playgrounds that are just around the corner from our apartment.

Walking paths next to playground

The street where we live.  Our building is half way down on the right (light yellow).

Our building - our apartment is the top 4 left windows of the white section.

The courtyard on the backside of building

Entrance area where you walk up to building - recycling bins for paper and plastic are provided alongside the trash.  Recycling bins are all over the city.

View from our dining and kitchen area

Been raining today, so the snow is gone and you can see all the grass in the courtyard.

View of our neighbor's patio from our living room - our neighbor also happens to be our landlord.  They are an awesome couple!

Our apartment in Frankfurt

Here's our new apartment.  It's pretty great, even has a wood burning stove in it!  The rent includes gas/electric, water, cable and internet.  We also get use of a storage room in the basement, and a garage if we needed one.  The best part is that the owners have a cleaning company come every 2 weeks, so I just have to keep the place tidy, and they do the deep clean.  Sweeeeeetttt....

Bathroom (the washer is on the wall to the left - owner offered to buy a dryer - I said yes!) Even has a heated towel rack behind the bathroom door.  Cozy!

we are going to use this room as Hollis' room, so plan to move the desk into the dining room for a combo dining/office area.

She was super excited to get all her books and toys back after having them packed for the last 3 weeks.  The same 4 toys was getting old.

Frankfurt am Main

These are some shots from our first adventures in Frankfurt.  We rode the U Train (underground) to the downtown area.  These shots are from the Zeil (street name), it's basically a large pedestrian shopping mall similar to 16th Street Mall in Denver.  We then walked over to see all the places you typically see on the postcards and magnets here. Enjoy!

"Kaiserdom" or "Imperial Cathedral"

Inside the Imperial Cathedral:  this is the view down the nave into the choir.
The German Kings and Emperors were elected here from 1152 onwards, and from 1562 crowned as well. However, it has never been a "cathedral" in the sense of being the See of a bishop.

The Alte Nikolaikirche was once the Councillors' chapel.

Hollis and I

The Goddess Justitia reminds the city's representatives to act fairly towards all citizens.  She stands at the center of the Fountain of Justice, since 1611 in the middle of the square (behind Hollis and I in the above photos).

Rob in front of the medieval facade of the "Romer", the town hall of Frankfurt.  The building can be recognized by the lantern cupola and the balcony bearing various coats of arms.

Just past the Square, you can walk over to the river and along the waterfront.
