Saturday in Sachsenhausen

One of the cool things about living in Frankfurt is that we can hop on the U-Train and be in a whole new part of the city in no time at all.  So, we rode south, got off the train and spent the day wandering streets, strollin' along the Main, looking at birds and swans, and seeing what the day brought us.

We are on the south side of the Main river, you can see downtown Frankfurt in the background.  We spent the sunnier part of the morning walking along the riverfront.

We walked away from the riverfront and ended up in this fun area.  Lots of cool buildings, bars and restaurants.  I imagine it's quite happening at night in this area.

We decided to stop for lunch... and of all the places we could've gone...
Rob picked Hooters.  Yep, they have one here.

Why is it you give a lady a little beer...

And she ends up dancing on the tables???

It poured rain the whole time we ate lunch, so after it stopped, we headed back out to do some exploring.  I think Hollis got the best seat in the house.

All sorts of fun bars in this alley, quite a few Irish pubs too!

Smooches for dad.  Thanks for the ride, poppa!

We decided to walk back to the downtown area, instead of riding the train, so we headed back along the river, so we could walk across the pedestrian bridge.

Some of the steep ramps you'll find around the city for strollers and wheelchairs.

Heading across the pedestrian bridge.  From the bridge, you can see some great river and city views.  We happened to be here just a little before sunset.  The bridge is also covered in locks, like we saw in Lithuania.  The locks are engraved or written on with names and wedding dates of the various couples.  This bridge had thousands of locks on it.  Pretty cool!

Walked back through the Romer, this building in the square is the only original one, as it was the only one that withstood the bombings during the war.

These were rebuilt in the 80's like the originals that stood here.
We capped out our day listening to this guy play music in front of the fountain.
It sounded similar to steel drums.
It was a great end to the day.
