Bazaar and Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony

Christmas in the Capital kicked off with and International Christmas Charity Bazaar and the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Cathedral Square.  I would guess that atleast 1,000 people showed up for the tree lighting festivities.  It was a crisp cold night, and we all stood in anticipation.  A large stage was set-up next to the tree where they played Christmas music (quite a few American holiday tunes), and also had dancers in the big lead up to the lighting of the tree.  Once the tree was lit, the audience got to partake in a Skype call with Santa himself.  Of course, since we are in Lithuania, he spoke Lithuanian to the crowd and we didn't understand a word.  However, it seemed that several people in the crowd were asked what they'd like Santa to bring for Christmas and he got to answer them back.  It was actually pretty fun, even though we didn't know what was being said.  After the fun, we wandered back into Old Town and had dinner with our pal Anthony.  Another friend, Thomas walked past our window and came in and joined us for a drink.

Some shots from the International Christmas Charity Bazaar... atleast 30 countries were represented and each country had a booth with items from their homeland.

Following the bazaar, we headed to Cathedral Square for the tree lighting...

We arrived at the square about 30 minutes before the festivities started.  There weren't many people here yet, but by the time it started... I'd say about 1,000 people showed up.
