Lions, and Tigers, and Bears! Oh my! - Amsterdam: Day Three

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Holland
March 29 - April 1, 2013

Easter Weekend
Day Three

The Artis Zoo

We had to catch the train in the afternoon, so we decided to take Hollis to the Artis Zoo and then ramble through the city one last time.  The Zoo was SUPER busy... holiday weekend... but once we were in, it wasn't too bad.  We skipped the building exhibits to avoid the crowds and enjoyed our time with the various animals.  It was a nice sunny day in Amsterdam... a great way to cap off our trip.

The final leg home was on the train.  We were within 30 minutes of Frankfurt, only to find out that another train had broken down on the tracks ahead of us and that they were rerouting all the trains through other routes.  What this meant for us was we had to go back to the last city to transfer to a different rail line.  They thought it would be 2 hours.  It ended up being 4.  Instead of getting home at 9:30, we didn't arrive into the station until just after 1am.  While this SUCKED, it wasn't all that bad.  The train company gave everyone on board free drinks, and then they came around with refund vouchers.  Trains guarantee their arrival times.  If you look at it that way... airlines would NEVER refund you money for delays.  This was like... wow... real customer service.  They were also offering vouchers for hotels and taxis for anyone stuck in Frankfurt due to missed connections.  Seriously... I was impressed.

Well... here's our day at the Artis Zoo!

This is a bicycle parking garage.  There are THOUSANDS of bicycles here.

Nemo - the top of this building is covered in bleachers.  Many sunbathers gather here.
